Aave governance is managed by a DAO through a hybrid process: off-chain signaling with public Temperature Checks (≥ 5 days discussion) and ARFC (Aave Request for Comment) phases (≥ 5 days forum discussion) voted on Snapshot, followed by formal on-chain Aave Improvement Proposals (AIPs). Token holders can vote directly or delegate voting and proposal power. Governance is multi-chain (Governance v3), allowing voting from L2s with execution on Ethereum. Safety Module staking secures the protocol and grants governance rights through stkAAVE, with voting power also including AAVE, stkAAVE, and aAAVE balances. On-chain adoption requires a quorum of 320,000 AAVE, a simple majority with ≥ 320,000 “for” votes, and a minimum 3-day voting period. Approved proposals are executed automatically by smart contracts after a timelock (24h short executor / 7d long executor).
